The Edge
Released serendipitously after the England cricket team's dramatic victory over New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup, director Barney Douglas's documentary revisits another period of homegrown sporting excellence. The film focuses on the period between 2009 and 2013 when the England Test cricket team reached world number one in the rankings for the first time since ICC records began. Captain Andrew Strauss and coach Andy Flower finessed a winning mentality but the psychological toll was huge, negatively impacting on players' mental health. Incorporating unseen footage from the era, The Edge contemplates the heavy price of success in new interviews with Strauss, Flower, James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Sir Alastair Cook, Kevin Pietersen, Graeme Swann and Jonathan Trott.
