Born and raised in Norfolk, Virginia, former Goldman Sachs banker and media investor Steve Bannon was appointed White House chief strategist under President Donald Trump. He became a divisive figure for his far-right ideology in the upper echelons of American politics, leaving his position less than a week before the August 2017 Unite The Right rally in Charlottesville. Documentary filmmaker Alison Klayman follows Bannon through the 2018 US mid-term elections and chronicles his efforts to unify far-right parties for the May 2019 European Parliamentary elections, which were overshadowed by Brexit. Through the lens of the camera, Bannon demonstrates he is a gifted self-promoter, generating headlines and protests with his efforts as he positions himself at the front of a global populist movement.
