Prophecy
Documentary filmmaker Charlie Paul chronicles the creation of a singular oil painting, beginning with a blank 6 feet by 8 feet canvas that former official British war artist Peter Howson must cover from his imagination in his Glasgow studio. As he delves into his darkly comic, obsessive mind and turns to Bruegel, DaVinci, El Greco and Goya for inspiration, Howson struggles to realise his vision. The film explores how unseen images in the artist's head transfer to canvas then follows the finished work to New York for its first public exhibition, culminating in a sale to a private art collector in London's Canary Wharf.
