Halston

Born and raised in Iowa, fashion designer Roy Halston Frowick - known simply as Halston - burst into the public consciousness in 1961 when Jacqueline Kennedy chose to wear one of his famous pillbox hats to her husband's inauguration. His star continued to rise through the 1970s, when he was frequently pictured at Studio 54 and counted the likes of Lauren Bacall, Betty Ford, Bianca Jagger, Liza Minnelli and Elizabeth Taylor among his celebrity clientele. His reign and popularity, epitomised by his silky soft signature fabric Ultrasuede, waned when he forged commercial ties with one of America's largest chain of department stores and the Halston brand became the property of larger corporations. Documentary film-maker Frederic Tcheng traces the meteoric rise and fall of a man, who was a confidant to the rich and fabulous but refused to disclose much about himself.
