Five Seasons: The Gardens of Piet Oudolf
Born and raised in Haarlem in the Netherlands, Piet Oudolf is a celebrated garden designer and plantsman whose bold use of colour and structure first came to attention with his own nursery in Hummelo. His ideas, which were one catalyst of the New Perennial movement, were expressed in eye-catching designs for the Lurie Garden in Chicago, Toronto Botanical Garden and the High Line in New York. Documentary filmmaker Thomas Piper follows Oudolf as he conceives and installs a major new garden at the Hauser & Wirth arts centre in Bruton, Somerset, drawing on inspirations from around the world including desert wildflowers and forests. The film also talks candidly to Oudolf about his career and dreams against the vibrant backdrop of Hummelo through all fours seasons.
