Woman At War
A 50-year-old choir mistress wages war against corporate greed and climate change in Icelandic writer-director Benedikt Erlingsson's uplifting comedy drama. Halla (Halldora Geirhardsdottir) is a seemingly shy and retiring member of the local community, who leads a secret double life as an environmental activist. She regularly attacks electricity pylons cluttering up the breath-taking landscapes of Reykjavik, using her trusty bow and arrow to disrupt the power lines. Police overlook Halla and repeatedly arrest tourist Juan Camillo (Juan Camillo Roman Estrada). Out of the blue, Halla receives news that her application to adopt a Ukrainian child has been approved after four years of bureaucratic indecision. She is to become a mother and the arrival of a new life will compel Halla to think more carefully about her guerrilla tactics.
