High Life
Celebrated French filmmaker Claire Denis makes her English language debut with a provocative science fiction drama co-written by Jean-Pol Fargeau. Convicts serving life sentences with no chance of parole are offered a tantalising deal: a chance at freedom if they agree to take part in a deep space mission to extract energy from a black hole. Chandra (Lars Eidinger) captains the intergalactic expedition and is assisted by ace pilot Nansen (Agata Butek) and the ship's medic Dibs (Juliette Binoche). Among the prisoners who agree to the unusual deal is a celibate murderer called Monte (Robert Pattinson), who tries to keep to himself. The inmates are unaware that they are guinea pigs in Dr Dibs' experiment in social and sexual engineering. She hopes to create a child through artificial insemination. As the mission approaches the black hole, increases in radiation threaten the safety of everyone on board and blood begins to flow.
