Cabaret
The BFI celebrates the 30th anniversary of Fosse's musical spectacular with a limited UK re-release. Cabaret is the movie version of the rousing Kander & Ebb musical, about an aspiring film actress called Sally Bowles (Liza Minnelli), who falls madly in love with a British writer (Michael York). The soundtrack includes the songs "Tomorrow Belongs To Me", "If You Could See Her", "Maybe This Time" and "Tiller Girls", as well as the title track. Cabaret was deservedly nominated for 10 Academy Awards in 1973, and eventually went home with eight trophies including Best Actress In A Leading Role (Minnelli), Best Actor In A Supporting Role (Joel Grey), Best Director (Bob Fosse), Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Art/Set Decoration, Best Original Song and Best Sound. A classic.
