Pond Life
Theatre director Bill Buckhurst harks back to the summer of 1994 for his debut feature film, exploring the ties that bind broken families, set to an original score composed by Richard Hawley. In the quiet mining village of Edlington outside Doncaster, rumours circulate about a giant carp called Nessie that lives in the decoy ponds. Teenager Trevor (Tom Varey) sits patiently at the water's edge, waiting for the fish to surface. Meanwhile, young lovers Maurice (Abraham Lewis) and Cassie (Daisy Edgar-Jones) steal kisses in the reeds and Pogo (Esme Creed-Miles) gallivants around the community, capturing excerpts of everyday life on her cassette recorder. As the temperature rises, hormones rage and young scamps Dave (Ethan Wilkie) and Shane (Gianluca Gallucci) terrorise local shopkeepers by shoplifting sweets.
