Maborosi
A rerelease of Japanese director Hirokazu Koreeda's award-winning 1995 drama, based on the novel by Teru Miyamoto. Ikuo (Tadanobu Asano) and his wife Yumiko (Makiko Esumi) are raising a baby in Osaka when tragedy strikes. The husband is killed by a train and Yumiko is left to care for their infant. She is tormented by the thought that Ikuo intended to kill himself on the train tracks shortly after he gave her a bell as a present. As the grief subsides but lingering doubts about Ikuo's state of mind remain, Yumiko agrees to marry a kind widower called Tamio (Takashi Naito) and moves to his house on the coast with her son Yuichi (Gohki Kashima). Yumiko and Tamio are haunted by their former loves and memories of the past threaten to create fissures in the relationship.
