Being Frank: The Chris Sievey Story
In the mid-1980s, musician and comedian Chris Sievey gave birth to his colourful alter ego with a papier mache head, Frank Sidebottom, who made numerous radio and TV appearances, and toured the country with hand puppet sidekick Little Frank. Sievey hid behind his eye-catching creation, who continued to make mischief until his death in June 2010. In 2012, documentary filmmaker Steve Sullivan began sifting through hundreds of boxes of possessions rescued from Sievey's house which included an extensive personal collection of home movies, diaries, notebooks, props and costumes. The archive revealed a wayward genius behind the papier mache mask. Sullivan's film draws on this material, interspersed with candid interviews with Sievey's family, friends, collaborators and fans including Jon Cooper Clarke, Ross Noble, Mark Radcliffe, Jon Ronson and Johnny Vegas.
