Reality and fiction collide in award-winning Iranian director Jafar Panahi's fourth feature since he was placed under house arrest and banned from filmmaking. A young woman called Marziyeh (Marziyeh Rezaei) makes a heartrending video in which she rages against her family's decision to prohibit her from following her dreams and becoming an actress. She addresses her words to her favourite performer, Behnaz Jafari (playing herself), then apparently takes her life. When Behnaz eventually receives the disturbing footage through her director friend Jafar Panahi (playing himself), she resolves to visit Marziyeh's village and authenticate the footage. Behnaz and Jafar embark on a road trip in search of answers.
