Teddy Pendergrass: If You Don't Know Me
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Teddy Pendergrass got his first taste of fame as lead singer of soul vocal group Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes. He eventually pursued a solo career and became the first African American male artist to record five consecutive platinum albums against a backdrop of social upheaval in 1960s America. Documentary filmmaker Olivia Lichtenstein pays tribute to Pendergrass, who was paralysed from the chest down following a car crash in 1982, and staged a comeback including an emotional performance at the 1985 Live Aid concert in his home city.
