Duck Soup
First released in 1933, Duck Soup is one of the Marx brothers' classic musical comedy capers. Under the aegis of his wealthy benefactor Mrs Teasdale (Margaret Dumont), enterprising Rufus T Firefly (Groucho) successfully becomes dictator of the nation of Fredonia, much to the consternation of Ambassador Trentino (Louis Calhern) from the neighbouring state of Sylvania. The ambassador is keen to overthrow Firefly and claim Fredonia as his own, so he dispatches two spies Pinky (Harpo) and Chicolino (Chico) to report back on the dictator and his actions. The political intrigue and skulduggery quickly descends into farce.
