Lizzie
Chloe Sevigny and Kristen Stewart play forbidden lovers in director Craig William Macneill's blood-soaked and twisted period romance, which is based on theories in Ed McBain's 1984 novel of the same title. Lizzie Borden (Sevigny) lives with her ferociously strict father (Jamey Sheridan) and stepmother (Fiona Shaw). The family estate should be inherited by Lizzie and her sister Emma (Kim Dickens) but uncle John (Denis O'Hare) seems to be plotting to seize control of the Borden estate. Tensions percolates behind closed doors and the air of menace is heightened by Mr Borden's shocking treatment of the maid Bridget (Stewart). He repeatedly rapes Bridget and, in her turmoil, she forms a tender bond with Lizzie. Passions ignite, which spill over into bloodshed as Lizzie wields a sharp axe and lashes out at her parents.
