The House That Jack Built

Oscar-nominated Danish writer-director Lars von Trier is unafraid to court controversy with his challenging work, which includes the experimental horror Antichrist starring Willem Dafoe and two-part erotic thriller Nymphomaniac headlining Charlotte Gainsbourg. This harrowing portrait of a serial killer played by Matt Dillon will be equally divisive, peppered with strong, bloody violence including one scene which appears to show a child severing the leg of live duckling. The mutilation was accomplished using special effects and no animals were harmed in the making of von Trier's picture. Handsome architect Jack (Dillon) has a passion for European art and an unspoken fascination with the Third Reich. When he isn't obsessing over the finer details of his dream lakeside home, Jack kills and mutilates unsuspecting victims - predominantly women - and keeps their body parts as souvenirs in a walk-in freezer in a rented warehouse. Jack prepares to dispatch his latest prey (Uma Thurman) and consign her to his collection of severed appendages.
