A Season In France (Une saison en France)
Director Mahamat-Saleh Haroun explores the plight of asylum seekers in present-day France in a tender drama headlined by Sandrine Bonnaire and Eriq Ebouaney. Abbas (Ebouaney) and his brother Etienne (Bibi Tanga) are teachers in Bangui in the Central African Republic, who flee their war-torn homeland in search of a brighter future. Abbas's wife is killed during the escape and he becomes sole carer for two children as they seek refuge in France, where the father is forced to work at a food market while Etienne is employed as a bouncer. During the lengthy and emotionally draining application process for political asylum, Abbas meets a beautiful French woman called Carole (Bonnaire). They fall in love and Carole invites Abbas and his children to stay with her in Paris. Unfortunately, Abbas's application is rejected and the lovebirds face agonising decisions.
