Return Of The Hero (Le retour du héros)
Opposites attract in director Laurent Tirard's romantic comedy set at the turn of the 19th century. Captain Neuville (Jean Dujardin) intends to marry Pauline Beauregard (Noemie Merlant) and he wins the approval of her parents (Christian Bujeau, Evelyne Buyle). Before the happy couple can walk down the aisle, Neuville answers Napoleon's call to fight and never returns. Pauline's resourceful sister Elisabeth (Melanie Laurent) tries to spare her sibling by falsifying letters from the missing soldier, which paint him as a hero who will eventually die on the battlefields. Two years pass and Pauline recovers from her fiance's death by marrying nobleman Nicolas (Christophe Montenez). Then a drunken and dishevelled Neuville resurfaces. When he learns that Pauline believes he is a war hero, he exploits the lie to worm his way back into her affections. Only Elisabeth knows the truth but she cannot expose Neuville's deception since that would mean confessing to her pivotal role in the fake letters.
