Utøya - July 22

Two weeks after British director Paul Greengrass sensitively documented Norway's deadliest terrorist attack perpetrated in 2011 by far-right extremist Anders Behring Breivik in his film 22 July, Norwegian director Erik Poppe focuses on distressing events at the Utoya summer camp attended by around 600 teenagers. Captured in a single take, Utoya - July 22 was created after conversations between the film-maker and survivors, but characters depicted on screen are fictional. Kaja (Andrea Berntzen) and her younger sister Emilie (Elli Rhiannon Muller Osbourne) are attending Utoya when news reaches the island of an explosion in Oslo. Staff and students believe they are safe. They are unaware that a gunman is heading for Utoya, intent on killing without mercy. Shots ring out and Kaja becomes separated from Emilie. Kaja meets a boy called Magnus (Aleksander Holmen) on the shore and they huddle together, waiting for the nightmare to end. However, Kaja cannot rest without her little sister.
