Arpad (Bence Tasnadi) is looking forward to his wedding to pretty peasant girl Kisrozsi (Dora Sztarenki), whose attraction to her fiance is based purely on his family's wealth. She still yearns for her previous beau, Jancsi (Tamas Szabo Kimmel), but ditched him for the chance to marry a pharmacy manager, whose father Istvan (Peter Rudolf) is the village notary. Arpad's mother Anna (Eszter Nagy-Kalozy) senses where Kisrozsi's true feelings lie and she is angry that her son is being hoodwinked. As the big day unfolds, tensions are inflamed by the unexpected arrival of two Orthodox Jews, Hermann Samuel (Ivan Angelus) and his son (Marcell Nagy). Their presence pricks the consciences of locals, who profited handsomely from the removal of Jewish neighbours.
