Escape from New York
A 4K restoration of John Carpenter's 1981 dystopian action thriller, which inspired an ill-fated sequel 15 years later entitled Escape From L.A. The year is 1997 and crime rates have spiralled. Residents of Manhattan have been resettled so the island can be transformed into a maximum-security prison for the most dangerous members of society, who are contained behind a 50-foot high wall. Terrorists hijack Air Force One and the plane crashes into New York City. The President (Donald Pleasence) manages to escape before impact but is captured by prison crime boss The Duke (Isaac Hayes). Commissioner Bob Hauk (Lee Van Cleef) offers a presidential pardon to former Special Forces soldier Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell) if he can infiltrate the prison and rescue the President. Snake is injected with explosives that will detonate in 22 hours unless the mission is a success. The clock is ticking...
