Skate Kitchen
Director Crystal Moselle casts real-life members of an all-female skateboard crew called Skate Kitchen in a sensitively observed coming-of-age drama. Spunky teenager Camille (Rachelle Vinberg) lives on Long Island with her overly protective mother (Elizabeth Rodriguez), whose attempts to control her daughter are met with fierce resistance. Camille is searching for her identity alongside her best friend Janay (Dede Lovelace) as part of a skateboard crew. The girls film each other performing tricks when they are not dabbling with drugs, alcohol and boys. Hormone-addled desire sparks potential romance between Camille and Janay's ex-boyfriend Devon (Jaden Smith) but Camille isn't entirely sure what she desires apart from the freedom to express herself.
