Best friends Nauti (Shraddha Kapoor), S.K. (Shahid Kapoor) and Tripathi (Divyendu Sharma) live in Garhwal, Uttarakhand, a rural community where the electricity supply is controlled by a privatised company called SPTL. Power often fails, plunging the entire town into darkness, and when it does flow freely, electricity is charged based on metres that sometimes return faulty readings. Tripathi opens a small-scale printing business and he is shocked to receive an electricity bill that he simply can't afford to pay. SPTL shows neither mercy nor compassion and as the pressure builds, poor Tripathi makes the ultimate sacrifice. Nauti and S.K., a fashion designer and lawyer, are devastated and they vow to avenge their friend. In particular, S.K. heads into court to spar with legal counsel Gulnaar (Yami Gautam) in the hope he can make SPTL accept responsibly for driving Tripathi to his death.
