Lucky
Harry Dean Stanton delivers one of his final screen performances in director John Carroll Lynch's tenderly observed drama, based on a script by Logan Sparks and Drago Sumonja. Lucky (Stanton) is a 90-year-old veteran of the Second World War, who has retired to the Arizona desert where he settles into a day-to-day routine of fleeting interactions. He feels good for his age and has regular check-ups with his physician (Ed Begley Jr) when he is not trading barbs with his dearest friend Howard (David Lynch) or Loretta (Yvonne Huff), the kindly waitress at the coffee shop where Lucky likes to watch the world go by. Fate compels Lucky to consider his mortality and the old timer surveys the remnants of his simple life for evidence of his impact on a confusing, self-destructive world.
