Inspired by the true story of the final of the men's hockey competition at the 1948 Summer Olympic Games, which resulted in India's first gold medal following independence, Gold is a fictionalised drama of sporting success against adversity set against the backdrop of the country's history from 1933 to 1948. Tapan Das (Akshay Kumar) is a Bengali hockey coach, who loves his country as much as his sport. Supported by his loving wife Monobina (Mouni Roy), Tapan resolves to guide the national team to glory on the international stage, regardless of the personal costs. This gruelling journey takes India to the 1948 Olympic Games held in London, where India will have to face the proud home nation.
