Mario
Closeted football players are torn between their hearts and careers in director Marcel Gisler's drama, which questions if it is possible for an openly gay professional player to succeed on and off the pitch. Mario (Max Hubacher) is a gifted Swiss player, who hopes to catch the eye of a scout for a major European team with the help of his agent Herr Gehrling (Andreas Matti). The young athlete is advised to steer clear of sex, drugs or behaviour that could grab the headlines and wreck his career before it has officially begun. Herr doesn't know that his rising star is gay and is concealing his sexuality from teammates for the sake of a glittering future. Mario even has a girlfriend called Jenny (Jessy Moravec) to project the right public image. His secret becomes harder to conceal when the team welcomes a handsome new striker from Germany called Leon (Aaron Altaras). Mario is asked to share an apartment with Leon and sexual attraction fizzes between the two men. They eventually kiss and continue a lust-fuelled affair behind closed doors. When rumours begin to circulate in the dressing room, Mario must decide if he is willing to sacrifice Leon to continue living a lie.
