Flying the Nest
A plucky bird overcomes adversity to fly south for the winter like his feathered kin in an Icelandic animated adventure for children, which screens at Vue cinemas around the UK and Ireland. The formidable falcon Shadow (voiced by Richard Cotton) swoops down on flocks of plover as they migrate back to their homeland. Numbers decrease and the birds' morale is depleted until the birth of an energetic chick called Ploey (Jamie Oram). He brings a newfound sense of optimism to the flock and subsequently falls in love with a beautiful female chick called Ploverina (Harriet Perring). Fate cruelly conspires against Ploey and he cannot take flight, while the rest of the birds head across the ocean for the winter. Separated from his one true love, Ploey realises he will have to use cunning and ingenuity to be reunited with Ploverina and evade the razor-sharp talons of Shadow. In the process, Ploey makes new friends on two and four legs, who open his eyes to a world of boundless possibilities and joy.
