Spitfire

To commemorate the centenary of the Royal Air Force, Ant Palmer directs a rousing documentary dedicated to the British single-seat fighter, which was instrumental in winning the Battle Of Britain and ultimately the Second World War. Digitally remastered archive film from the 1940s combines with aerial footage captured by top aviation photographer John Dibbs to give audiences a cockpit-view of the Spitfire and the men who flew the iconic planes, set to an original score composed by Chris Roe. Some of the last-surviving combat veterans provide moving testimony of their memories of the flying machine in the heat of combat, enriched with narration by Charles Dance. Screenings on July 17 include a live satellite transmission of footage from the world premiere at the Curzon Mayfair in London, hosted by Carol Vorderman MBE in the company of special guests.
