Re-release of Stanley Kubrick's Oscar-winning 1975 costume drama adapted from William Makepeace Thackeray's novel, tracing the adventures of a fortune-hunting Irishman in the 18th century, with Ryan O'Neal perfectly cast as the rogue-hero. Barry lusts after his beautiful cousin, Nora (Gay Hamilton), but her fancy is taken instead with Captain Quin (Leonard Rossiter). Falling victim to a con, Barry learns to fend for himself with the help of various colourful characters including a dandy highwayman (Arthur O'Sullivan), who harden his heart and transform him into a cynical and merciless manipulator of people. A vulnerable and wealthy widow (Marisa Berenson) falls victim to Barry's charms, providing the chancer with the necessary funds to establish a sure footing in society.
