Habit
Based on the novel by Stephen McGeagh, Habit is a dark and grimy thriller about an aimless young man, who is sucked into the criminal underworld of present-day Manchester. Michael (Elliot James Langridge) is haunted by the death of his mother, which he witnessed as a young boy. Emotionally withdrawn and socially awkward, Michael is content to ricochet between collecting benefits and drinking them away at the local pub. One morning, he encounters Lee (Jessica Barden), who needs a place to stay. In exchange for Michael's kindness, Lee introduces him to her uncle Ian (William Ash), who manages a seedy massage parlour called Cloud 9. Michael befriends some of the working girls including Alex (Roxanne Pallett) but his world spirals out of control when he witnesses a brutal crime on the premises. Without fully comprehending what he has seen, Michael drifts into a merciless, hidden world of gangsters, perversion and betrayal from which there is no return.
