Stanley a Man of Variety
Stanley (Timothy Spall) has been behind bars for almost 15 years in a Victorian psychiatric prison but he continues to vociferously profess his innocence. He is deemed a low risk and is granted privileges to clean the facility. In exchange, the guards reward Stanley with tokens, which he feeds into the metre that powers an archaic television in his cell, on which he watches videos of his favourite show business performers. One day, without warning or explanation, Stanley's privileges are revoked and he faces a grim future without his beloved videos. Even worse, he is fast approaching the 15th anniversary of his only daughter's death and Stanley made a solemn promise to visit her grave on the anniversary. As Stanley's mental state whirls out of control, he faces a barrage of fragmented memories about his tortured past and confronts the sins that have led him to incarceration.
