The Giant Pear
Two young friends head out to sea in search of a missing dignitary in a Danish computer-animated adventure directed by Philip Einstein Lipski, Amalie Naesby Fick and Jorgen Lerdam. Based on the children's book by Jakob Martin Strid, the film focuses initially on benevolent mayor JB (voiced by Henrik Koefoed), who presides over the village of Sunnytown, where creatures great and small live in harmony beside the sea. When JB vanishes without trace, his ambitious deputy Twig (Peter Plaugborg) allows power to go to his head. He builds a monstrous town hall that blocks out the soothing sunshine and shows no interest in discovering the whereabouts of JB. An elephant called Sebastian (Alfred Bjerre Larsen) and cat Mitcho (Liva Elvira Magnussen) discover a message from JB in a bottle, which instructs them to plant the seed of a pear tree. Once the tree bears fruit, Sebastian and Mitcho embark on a quest to return JB to Sunnytown, aided by their good friend, Professor Glucose (Peter Frodin). This perilous expedition takes them out to sea, bound for a mysterious island.
