That Good Night
Sir John Hurt makes his final screen appearance in director Eric Styles' elegiac meditation on reconciliation and assisted death, adapted from N. J. Crisp's 1996 stage play. Misanthropic writer Ralph Maitland (Hurt) is facing terminal illness on his own terms, orchestrating a reunion with his estranged son Michael (Max Brown) over the Easter weekend at his sun-kissed Portuguese villa before he enlists the services of an enigmatic stranger (Charles Dance) to end his life with lethal injection. Before he faces the final curtain, Ralph berates his son for squandering his talent, clashes with Michael's spunky fiancee Cassie (Erin Richards) and makes his peace with his wife Anna (Sofia Helin).
