Nothing Like a Dame
Dame Eileen Atkins, Dame Judi Dench, Dame Joan Plowright and Dame Maggie Smith are acting royalty, whose careers have blossomed since the 1950s. The actresses have enjoyed success on stage and screen, accumulating critical raves and glittering trophies including Academy Awards, Baftas, Golden Globes, Olivier Awards and Tony Awards. The women are also good friends and occasionally meet in the English countryside to reminisce about their extraordinary careers and the personal triumphs and tragedies that have bookmarked their lives. Director Roger Michell is allowed to set up his cameras to record one of these informal gatherings, spending quality time with Atkins, Dench, Plowright and Smith as they trade anecdotes, interspersed with revealing archive material and photographs. Selected screenings of the film include a special introduction by Plowright and an exclusive interview with director Michell.
