A Gentle Creature (Krotkaya)
Written and directed by Sergei Loznitsa, A Gentle Creature is an unflinching drama set in rural Russia, which charts one woman's brutal odyssey in search of answers about her husband. A doting wife (Vasikina Makovtseva) lives alone in a cottage with her dog, earning enough money by working in a petrol station to send care packages of food and clothes to her spouse, who has been imprisoned for murder. The husband pleads his innocence to no avail and must serve his time behind bars. One day, the wife receives one of her parcels and it is marked 'return to sender'. No one can tell the wife why the parcel has been returned so she manages to get time off work to travel to the prison in Siberia to discover her husband's fate.
