The Nile Hilton Incident

Set against the backdrop of the 2011 Egyptian revolution, which brought down the regime of President Hosni Mubarak, director Tarik Saleh's slow-burning thriller witnesses crime and punishment on the streets of Cairo, where police officers are just as corrupt as the men they vow to put behind bars. Detective Noredin (Fares Fares) has steadily risen through the ranks because of family ties rather than genuine talent. His uncle is district police chief Kamal (Yasser Ali Maher) and Noredin exploits his position by demanding protection money from the weak and the vulnerable. During a daily prowl of Cairo with his younger partner Momo (Mohamed Yousry), Noredin is called to the Nile Hilton Hotel to investigate the death of a female guest. The victim turns out to be a famous pop singer and Noredin recognises the tell-tale signs of a professional hit. However, the prosecutor's office declares the death to be a suicide and Kamal instructs his nephew to walk away from the crime scene. For once in his life, Noredin does the right thing and he interviews a hotel maid, Salwa (Mari Malek), who claims to have seen a smartly dressed gentleman leaving the victim's room. The quest for justice pits Noredin against shadowy figures in the upper echelons of political power.
