R Balki writes and directs an eagerly anticipated Bollywood drama based on the true store of eccentric inventor and social activist Arunachalam Muruganantham, whose ground-breaking work was honoured by his inclusion in Time magazine's prestigious 100 Most Influential People In The World in 2014. Lakshmikant Chauhan (Akshay Kumar) is a family man, who becomes deeply concerned about the taboo surrounding menstrual hygiene in his country, especially in rural areas where poor women have no access to affordable sanitary products. He embarks on a madcap quest to develop a low-cost but high-quality pad that can be dispensed discreetly from machines. This work turns Lakshmikant into a social outcast but he perseveres with the support of his wife (Radhika Apte). Eventually, the only test subject that Lakshmikant can rely upon is himself and he trials each prototype as he cycles furiously around the neighbourhood, where locals greet him with withering looks of shame, despair and disgust.
