Bill Viola: The Road to St Paul's
Born in New York City, Bill Viola is one of the world's most influential video artists, who constantly challenges preconceptions with his eye-catching multimedia work, which he creates in close collaboration with his wife Kira Perov. Director Gerry Fox's documentary portrait spends 12 years in the company of Viola and Petrov as they conceive two multi-screen permanent exhibits called Martyrs (Earth, Air, Fire, Water) and Mary, which will be installed on either side of the High Altar in St Paul's Cathedral in London. The film looks back over Viola's career and some of its highlights, including the 2014 retrospective at the Grand Palais in Paris, and also examines the intricacies of the artist's working relationship with his wife.
