Lover For A Day (L'amant d'un jour)
Fiftysomething philosophy professor Gilles (Eric Caravaca) is in the throes of amour fou with a younger woman, Ariane (Louise Chevillotte), whose appetite for carnal pleasure knows no bounds. At 23, Ariane is the same age as Gilles' grown-up daughter Jeanne (Esther Garrel) and friction is inevitable when Jeanne is forced to move back home to live with her father after her relationship ends in heartbreak. At first, Ariane and Jeanne are openly antagonistic towards each other and they engage in an unspoken competition for Gilles' affections. A simple act, such as the first person he greets when he arrives home, subtly alters the dynamic between the three housemates. Over time, enmity between the young women mellows into friendship and they inspire each other to seek fulfilment outside of their current relationships. Experimentation has consequences for Gilles' May-December romance and he seriously questions the sensibility of dating someone who prefers to shower her bountiful gifts on more than one man.
