Fireworks

Time certainly isn't linear in this gushingly romantic Japanese animation co-directed by Nobuyuki Takeuchi and Akiyuki Shinbo, which is inspired by a 1993 live-action TV movie that never played to western audiences. The idealised teenage heroine is pretty schoolgirl Nazuna (Suzu Hirose), who is experiencing troubles in her small-town home. She secretly plans to run away to the city and begins the day by rescuing a mysterious glass orb from the sea. This artefact falls into the hands of classmate Norimichi (Masaki Suda), who has a crush on Nazuna but is too shy to declare his feelings. His best friend Yusuke (Mamoru Miyano) is equally smitten with Nazuna and they lads compete for her affections and the right to accompany her to the annual fireworks festival. As Norimichi musters the courage to win Nazuna's heart, he learns that the glass orb blesses him with the ability to stop and rewind the flow of time, so he can explore the repercussions of different decisions. Using the device, Norimichi is able to relive the same afternoon with Nazuna and hopefully make the right choices to light the fuse on a burgeoning romance.
