An American Werewolf in London
Rock Baker won the Academy Award for Best Make-up for his incredible creature designs in John Landis' 1981 tale of man and beast on the loose in the capital. David Kessler (John Naughton) and his buddy Jack Goodman (Griffin Dunne) trek across the north of England with their backpacks, stopping off for a drink at a pub called The Slaughtered Lamb. Told by the locals to stick to the road, the American visitors pay no heed to the advice and head onto the moors where a large wolf kills Jack and badly injures David. He escapes thanks to the intervention of the gun-toting village folk then recuperates in a London hospital under the care of Dr Hirsch (John Woodvine) and pretty nurse Alex Price (Jenny Agutter), who becomes his lover. A visit from the zombified Jack reveals that David is now a werewolf, cursed to transform into a slavering beastie every full moon. Sure enough, the injured American metamorphoses into a killing machine and begins to take huge bites out of unfortunate victims around the city.
