Jungle

Greg McLean, director of Wolf Creek, ventures into the Bolivian jungle for a dramatisation of true events from the early 1980s, when a group of travellers embarked on a fatal journey into lush wilderness. Yossi Ghinsberg (Daniel Radcliffe) harks from a middle-class Israeli family, who expect him to attend college and secure a well-paid profession. Instead, he heads to Bolivia in 1981 on a globe-trotting expedition of self-discovery alongside many other 20-something backpackers. En route, Yossi befriends a kind and thoughtful Swiss teacher called Marcus Stamm (Joel Jackson) and the two young men travel side by side, savouring unfamiliar sights. Marcus introduces Yossi to an old acquaintance, American photographer Kevin Gale (Alex Russell), who is travelling around the region capturing breathtaking images of tribes and wildlife. The trio meet a mysterious Austrian adventurer called Karl Ruprechter (Thomas Kretschmann), who boldly claims that he can take them through uncharted jungle to the site of Incan ruins. After much feverish debate, Yossi, Marcus and Kevin follow Karl into the jungle. Only two of them will return to civilisation.
