Chasing the Dragon (Chui lung)
Jason Kwan and Wong Jing co-direct a remake of the 1991 crime drama To Be Number One, headlining Donnie Yen and Andy Lau in a battle for supremacy on the streets of Hong Kong. The year is 1963 and the British have resumed control of the colony including maintaining law and order under the direction of unabashed xenophobic police superintendent Ernest Hunt (Bryan Larkin). Illegal immigrant Crippled Ho (Yen) enters Hong Kong from mainland China, and slowly clambers up the ranks of the criminal underworld to become a fearsome drug lord. This ascent is facilitated by corrupt cop Lee Rock (Lau), who recognises the personal benefits in aligning himself with one of the most powerful men on the opposite side of the law. Lee Rock and Crippled Ho exploit their secret alliance to strengthen their grips on power but both men can only rise for so long before one of them must fall.
