First They Killed My Father
Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie returns to the director's chair for this powerful adaptation of the memoir by Cambodian author and human rights activist Loung Ung. The story unfolds between 1975 and 1978 and is viewed through the eyes of little Loung Ung (Sareum Srey Moch) from the age of five as she struggles to make sense of the impact of the deadly Khmer Rouge regime on her country. Protected by her father (Phoeung Kompheak) and mother (Sveng Socheata), Loung Ung bears witness to the atrocities of a brutal civil war that is largely hidden from the outside world. Yet the little girl and her family refuse to be broken by their ordeal, uniting as the Khmer Communist Party exerts terrifying control over the people. Jolie's film will stream simultaneously on Netflix.
