The Case for Christ
Adapted from the best-selling 1998 book of the same title by Lee Strobel, The Case For Christ is the latest American faith drama to reach these shores under the direction of Jon Gunn. The year is 1980 and Strobel (Mike Vogel) is an award-winning investigative journalist for the Chicago Tribune, who places his faith in facts rather than God. During a meal at a restaurant with his beautiful wife Leslie (Erika Christensen), their young daughter Alison (Haley Rosenwasser) begins to choke violently on her food. Thankfully, a nurse called Alfie (L Scott Caldwell) is also at the restaurant and steps in to save the little girl. Alfie casually remarks that Jesus was looking out for little Alison. Consequently, Leslie befriends the nurse and attends church with her, which places a strain on the marriage. Lee vows to put his journalistic skills to the test to debunk Christianity and shake his spouse's new found faith in religion. Over the next couple of years, he speaks to various experts including noted psychiatrist Dr Roberta Waters (Faye Dunaway) and comes to terms with the emotional divide to his domineering father Walter (Robert Forster).
