Journey Through French Cinema
Celebrated writer-director Bertrand Tavernier embarks on a very personal journey through French cinema, championing the films plus the directors, writers and actors, who have shaped his appreciation of the moving image. Originally a film critic, Tavernier subsequently worked as an assistant to Jean-Pierre Melville and reminisces about this fertile period in his documentary. He was also a press publicist for Jean-Luc Godard and one of the creative forces behind the Lumiere Classic Film Festival. Interspersing his own memories and thoughts about his favourite French pictures with clips and archive footage, Tavernier pays tribute to almost 100 features from his homeland in a little over three hours.
