The Work
Documentary filmmakers Jairus McLeary and Gethin Aldous venture inside Folsom State Prison in California to observe the work of the Inner Circle Foundation, who hope to rehabilitate some of the inmates - many of whom are serving life sentences - through intense four-day therapy sessions with men from the outside world. The film focuses on three of these non-inmates - a museum employee rejected by his father, a bartender whose father was incarcerated, a teacher's assistant with combustible emotions - and their interactions with three lifers inside a single room, where participants are encouraged to bear their souls and share their deepest fears. Through the lens, we see that it is the outsiders who stand to benefit most from these sessions with guidance from prisoners, who have already confronted their demons.
