The Black Prince
Punjabi singer-songwriter Satinder Sartaaj makes his feature film acting debut in director Kavi Raz's lavish period drama. Sikh Maharajah Ranjit Singh, ruler of Punjab, passes away and his death creates a power vacuum, which precipitates a violent war of succession. Eventually, his five-year-old youngest son, Duleep Singh, is installed as king. The British spirit Duleep away to England to be raised as a Christian under the personal care of Queen Victoria (Amanda Root). As he enters early adulthood, Duleep (now played by Sartaaj) earns permission from Queen Victoria to travel home to meet his real mother (Shabana Azmi). This reunion sets Duleep on a dangerous path to free his people from the grasp of the British Raj.
