A 25th anniversary restoration of the lavish Merchant Ivory costume drama, adapted from EM Forster's classic novel by Ruth Prawer Jhabvala and directed by James Ivory, which was nominated for nine Academy Awards. Helen Schlegel (Helena Bonham Carter) is delighted to accept a marriage proposal from Paul Wilcox (Joseph Wilcox), whose wealthy family owns beloved country home Howards End. A friendship develops between Mrs Wilcox (Vanessa Redgrave) and Helen's sister Margaret (Emma Thompson), which culminates in Mrs Wilcox bequeathing Howards End to Margaret on her death bed. Businessman Henry Wilcox (Anthony Hopkins) and the rest of the clan are fiercely opposed, believing that the matriarch was not of sound mind. So they burn all written evidence of the inheritance.
