Okja
Celebrated South Korean director Bong Joon-ho (The Host, Snowpiercer) is the creative genius behind this fantastical Netflix comedy drama, which touches upon themes of genetic modification and ethical food production. Fourteen-year-old orphan Mija (An Seo Hyun) lives in the mountains with her grandfather and her best friend Okja, a hulking six tonne piglet whose genetic make-up could well include hippopotamus given her size. Out of the blue, Lucy Mirando (Tilda Swinton), the Machiavellian CEO of the company which created Okja, coldly and cruelly reclaims ownership of the animal. Plucky Mija is devastated but refuses to be separated from her porcine pet. She joins forces with quixotic animal welfare activists Jay (Paul Dano) and K (Steve Yeun) to rescue Okja from the clutches of Mirando and her crazed zoologist sidekick, Dr Johnny Wilcox (Jake Gyllenhaal).
